Like the well-informed consumer that you are, you are trying to do a little research about the school to see if it’s legit and properly accredited.  After all, that’s how you ended up reading this, right? To answer the question of whether Full Sail University is accredited, it’s necessary to briefly explain how collegiate accreditation works in the United States.

What Does It Mean To Be Accredited?

The gold standard of collegiate accreditation in the United States is known as regional accreditation.  There are six regional accreditation agencies that are responsible for schools located in different geographic regions.  A school only needs to be accredited by one of the six agencies since accreditation from one agency is considered to be equivalent to the others.  Brown, Cornell, and Dartmouth, for example, each hold regional accreditation.  Before we go any further, it must be said that Full Sail University does not hold regional accreditation.  This doesn’t mean the school is entirely unaccredited though.  Full Sail University does hold accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).  ACCSC is a legitimate accrediting agency that is recognized by the United States Department of Education.  It primarily accredits vocational and career schools.

Accredited, Yes – But With A Few Caveats

Because Full Sail University is not accredited by one of the six regional accrediting agencies, you may not be able to use your Full Sail University degree to go on to graduate school.  In addition, if you start a program through the school but don’t finish, you may not be able to transfer your credits to another school.  Now, having said that, Full Sail University is a pretty good school that offers some very interesting programs of study.  Many Full Sail University graduates have gone on to enjoy fulfilling careers that the school prepared them for.  If you are interested in such fields of study as game design, sound engineering, and other uncommon programs, Full Sail University can definitely prepare you for them.

  1. It is difficult for me to understand how any “university” offering ” university” degrees can use the term “university” if those “degrees” are are not accepted at legitimate regional accredited universities. It seems to me than in reality, that they the fore they can not be considered leg inmate university/college degrees.
